Here you will find my 3D ScrapArt projects

In this section of my gallery I would like to share my 3D work with you. As a theatre designer and then stage manager for years I learned lots of prop making and construction skills and really enjoyed that part of my work. What has been great on my scrap art journey is discovering I can use a lot of the techniques I have learned in transforming my scrap booking and scrap art pieces into 3D projects. It's opened up a whole new world to explore and there will be lots of projects coming over the months so please check back regularly! The other great thing is I have been able to make some of these pieces into DIY projects so that you too can create these 3D works of art for yourself, these are all available in the shop!

The wishing House

There seems to be a fascination with birdhouses at the moment as lovely additions to home decor. When I made this version I wanted to make it a little bit different and functional and so the wishing house was born. This little birdhouse will hold all your wishes and secrets. Post a wish on a scroll of paper through the hole in the front and let them upstairs do the rest. The papers are from the Glitz Olivia collection and inspired me to make my birdhouse. So inspired was I when I made it and we were comin up to Christmas, that I made smaller ones and called them Christmas wishes. How cute hanging on the tree for the posting of Chrstmas wishes or even to be made into a lovely gift box for that special present. Want to make one? Well why not pop into the shop and get the DIY project to make your very own wishing house, and may all your wishes come true you never know maybe these little houses really do have magic powers! Mexican Shrine

I love the shrines that you see everywhere in Mexico and have always wanted to make my own so when I did a guest design spot for IACW I decided to give it a go. I made it from card and papier mache and the little drawer at the bottom opens for me to hide away all my secrets and treasures. The heart is sculpted from polystyrene packing from a box and I added some charms, shells and flowers that I have collected on my travels. Instructions coming soon to make your own!

memory theatre project

Cinderella - A Memory Theatre

As seen in Scrapbook Inspirations December 2008 issue 47. This is where my past comes into play! I used to love making miniature theatres when I was little, then grew up to design in them, now I am making them again in miniature as a grown up, funny life's twists and turns! It is constructed from mount board and uses the model making techniques I used when training at theatre college taught to me by the lovely Colin Winslow a very successful theatre designer, to whom I am forever grateful for teaching me so well! The original idea came about during a cyber crop on UKScrappers when I purchased the mystery kit and had the brief, musicals!! Immediately I thought of a stage musical and the miniature theatre was born. The scenery is made up of my photos, photocopies, scans and found images on the internet and the characters are all family and friends heads on costumed bodies that I have found in books and on the internet. I've used basic grey papers and rub ons and lots of ink! You can see the rest of my production shots here and you can also purchase a DIY project to make your own memory theatrehere

pop up pirate project

A Pirates Tale Pop up surprise!

As seen in issue 50 of Scrapbook magazine in February 2009. My nieces came to stay with me for a week and my mum sent them some presents. The little one got a pirate outfit and it was the only thing she would wear!! needless to say the photo oppurtunities were vast and I knew I wanted to do more than a layout with the results. I had so many photos I had the idea of a story book on a layout and thought it would be great to be able to include a pirate ship. The project grew and took on a mind of it's own and the result was this, A large 3D book that contains a model of a pirate ship that pops up when it is open. The layout of the story is inside too. I had great fun creating this, you can see more pictures of it here and I am in the process of writing the DIY project for it so I can share it with all of you! Watch this space and look out for announcements! The paper is a mix of Basic grey, HOTP, Sandy lions and Craft creation. This is one picture of the inside, see the link above for more!

pop up castle project

A Pop up Fairy Castle

I created this project for my first real life class! I love pop ups and have recently read 2 great books by Carol Barton called the pocket paper engineer, the ideas in the books sparked off loads of project ideas for me and this is the first one. My niece went to see uncle 'handrew' in panto last xmas and was dressed as tinkerbell so I wanted to record that memory, the fairy castle was just perfect for this. The book closed is 12''x6'' opening to the pop up at 12''x12''. The papers are Basic grey, my minds eye and bazill card. there is one picture of the pop up below and other pictures of the project can be seen here. Also the DIY project is now available in the shop here so you can make your own magical kingdom, imagine it in blue for a boy or even a haunted castle!!!

christmas sleigh project

A Christmas treat

This idea came about from a childhood memory. When me and my sister were little every Christmas there stood a Christmas chalet on the window sill and in that chalet was 24 little wrapped presents. We would get a treat each, from boxing day and every day over the 12 days of Christmas. It was like a special secret unwrapping one of those little toys everyday and extending the magic of Christmas. I decided a Sleigh would make a great version of this filled with little presents aswell as making a great christmas decoration I wanted to create a bit of fun by making paper doll characters, so it becomes interactive, imagine the fun making up Christmas stories! I've used My husband and the 2 grandchildren in my display. The paper is Basic Grey and papermania. I made a funky version too filled with sweets and I think it would look great filled with baubles and decorations. There are more pictures here and if you would like to make your own Christmas treat the DIY Project is availablehere.

The original Memory theatre - Mary Poppins

This is the original theatre made for the UKScrappers Cyber crop using the mystery kit. The mystery kit was 5 papers, the rub-ons and the embellishments you see other than that the rules were you could only use black and white basic material, eg card and ink! you can see the rest of my Mary Poppins production here.

At the moment some of my projects are awaiting publication so please come back and have a look soon!
