A collection of my other projects and art work
I'd like to share some of my other art projects, I think scrapping can spread across a wide range of things and hope you enjoy some of my pieces, why not have a go at scrapping outside the album!
Owl Canvas
A canvas I made for a friend ... who loves owls! It was a great way to use up scraps as all the feathers are little bits of paper. I added in some inspirational words and embellishments and the background is a yummy mix of Tissue paper and mica powder aswell as an actual photo of the moon.
Friends who are 40!
A small free standing double canvas I made for my friend to celebrate her 40th! I used photos of us growing up at ballet lessons including our 1st show programme aswell as lots of embellishments that are relevant to us and inspirational quotes. It's hinged with the old fashioned duffle coat hook and eyes.
Funky Family Portrait
This is a reverse canvas with a collage set into it, because of the depth of the frame it is quite 3D. It's a collage of my family using my favourite paper dolls technique including the 2 new puppies! The funky frame is made from papier mached corrugated card, painted gold.
Mermaid
A moment of madness from me! I woke up one day with an image of this canvas in my head and it had to come out! It's done on a cheap canvas from a cheap bookshop, you can get some real bargains now!! The background is collaged bits of ephemera I collected, including the shipping forecast for the day and tide times! I then wrote over the top of it all with 'the sound of the sea', then papier mached over the top with tissue paper and bits of music I photocopied, an old folk song about mermaids. I then built up the corners with good old loo roll, painted it with acrylic, sprinkled glitter into the wet paint and pushed shells into it to set in place. I brushed mica powders over the damp surface, phew! The face is a gel medium transfer of me onto canvas and the hair is a stamp on acetate and coloured with alcohol inks. The body I carved out of polystyrene and papier mached with brown paper. The tail is bubble wrap painted and scraps of paper cut to shape, the tip of the tail is embossed using a glue stick to get that great aged metal texture. One hand is shrink plastic the other is an art metal fish and the words of a poem go round the edges written onto gesso.
Sketch Book and Tote set
I made this gift for my mum following an anniversary trip we sent mum and dad on to venice for their 40th wedding anniversary. I got a sketch book and covered it in stretched, doodled, stamped, tissue papier mache paper then stitched into it. I embellished with a photo of their trip framed with art metal and the embossed heart with metal wings. To accompany it I bought a child's gardening tote in tesco and knew it would be great for altering. I coloured it with felt tip pens blended with water, trimmed the pockets in velvet and the top edge with the tape measure ribbon. I made little pieces the same as the sketch book cover and attached to some pockets and photos of the trip framed on others. I then bound the handles with matching yarn, adding ribbons and charms to both pieces. Click here to see some before and after pictures.
The Sea
This is my interpretation of the sea on canvas. It's lots of ripped and torn paper that is chalked in places. Pieces of shrink plastic, wire, beads and stitching. I also added some fusible fibres and the metal shells are art metal embellishments made by moulding them onto shells.
Frida Kahlo ATCs
A set of ATCs done for a swap on UKScrappers. I've used pieces of Fridas art and the influence of her fabulous story. A lot of the cards have layers done by printing onto transparency film.
Dandelion sisters
A canvas of my 2 nieces. My sister sent me this fab picture of the girls taken on her mobile phone. I made it as big as I could without losing quality and decided to set it in the middle of the canvas after painting a big block of yellow roughly on it. I hand cut the doodled frame and the spirals stick out giving the piece a 3D effect, remember making spiral christmas decorations at school that did that? The rest of the embellishments are my doodles coloured with pencils and cut out, some I have attached with silicon to add to the 3D effect.
Voice Angel CD cover
A friend of ours recently asked me to design a CD cover for her, which I was flattered about and was excited to do something different! The original is done as an 8x8 layout with another of my tissue paper backgrounds. I scanned this before building up the image so I could use it on the inside and back of the cover. I made metal wings and added the bling crown then scanned the whole thing to make the actual cover. Check out Sarah's website here
Fishing Box
I wanted to make something for my dad and had the idea of altering a fishing box for him! I painted the outside with acrylics and alcohol ink. I altered the inside with alcohol ink and added photos and hessian to the compartments as well as art metal fish. Everything is sealed with sticky back plastic and silicon so it is waterproof but he keeps it by his chair as a little treasure chest instead of taking it to the river, he says it's too nice for that! Click here to see the inside of the box.
Inspirational canvas
I made this canvas for my husband for valentines. It is painted with acrylics with loo roll papier mache in places for texture. The heart is carved in polystyrene and papier mached with brown paper and loo roll, painted with acrylics and inked. The wings I made from art metal brushed with alcohol ink.
