poetry embossing

Those Eyes

This is a photo I captured on my mobile phone of my niece and just had to scrap! I wanted to use the title Those Eyes and actually found a poem that ends in 'oh those angel eyes' by John Fletcher, which is written under the title which opens up. I decided to keep it all blue to reflect her eyes and used a mixture of papers, card and stamping to build up the layout. The swirl is hand cut and further journalling written round it with some chunky gems added for good measure! I cut and embossed the silver paisley to balance things up and embossed a paisley stamped image round the edges to ground the piece using some yummy blonde moments embossing powder. Finally after hand cutting the title I added glitter for a bit of girlyness!

distressed autumn

An Autumn Walk

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, I think the colours are awesome! This photo was taken along the lane where I live and it is like a tunnel of trees so I wanted to reflect that in the Layout. I took a piece of cardboard box cut to 12x12 and peeled off the top layer to reveal the corrugate round the edges and in the middle where I cut the frame, I then inked it to within an inch of it's life!! I wanted it to look, woody and rustic. I framed my photo then embellished it with photographs that I took of the hedge rows, cutting out individual leaves and berries and layering them up. The title is cut from a piece of cosmo cricket paper.

Do not open until December 25th

I wanted to document some of my childhood memories of Christmas so decided to make a LO like an advent calender. I stretched some paper painting one piece in red the other in green, throwing glitter over the wet acrylic. I sandwiched a piece of corrugated card between the 2 pieces of 12x12 cutting out the window frames in it and making the doors in the red paper 1st. The writing on white is a gel medium transfer of 'the computers first christmas card' a poem from childhood. The old St Nicholas was found on the internet and hand coloured. I stamped round the windows using HOTP swirl stamps and embossed round the main window with glue stick and embossing powder. I made the little calender on the computer to look like the ones we used to use on the obligatory yearly calender made at school!! behind each window I made little collages of photos from each year I documented, using gesso round the images to journal on.

photo transfer

In your arms

I love the trick of fabric and paper in this Layout! The Background is actually a piece of paper printed like denim that I have ripped and curled round the edges but the photos are gel medium transfers on to canvas and stitched into place! I added eyelets on the corners to add to the jeans feel and made little red tags to journal on to look like that well known jeans maker!! The arrow is made of denim and stitched and the main journalling is printed on a piece of transparency that I applied gesso onto the back of so the writing stood out. It's a layout of all my favourite places in the world!

mirror mirror

Mirror Mirror

I was inspired to do this piece of work when looking through a box of old photos and seeing this one of my mum, I had to do a double take because I thought it was me! The same day I was in a shop and saw a card with 'mirror mirror on the wall I am my mother's daughter after all' on it and knew that was my Layout! I wanted it to be like a fairy tale so kept the colours bright, doodling and hand cutting the flowers, the bird and the scallop frame. The chipboard M and it's negative are hand cut and glittered green, the rest of the title is written with a white pen. The stamped background is a texture stamp plate from colourbox. Finally I added my journalling in the little hand made fairy tale book. It tells the story of a little girl and her run in with the naughty fairy adolescence!  (but it does have a happy ending!)

mexico tissue paper

Mexico en la piel (Mexico in the skin)

I adore this photo of a Mayan warrior that I took at Xcaret ecological park in Mexico (a fabulous place!) I was determined to get a candied shot and not one of the posed tourist shots everyone was taking. The background is a stretched piece of paper on which I papier mached some tissue paper to create the mexican blanket effect on one side and a photograph of a wall in a ruin that I took on the other. I ripped and inked some brown card to look like the bark paper the mayans paint their calenders on and found a mayan design which I added using dark paper pens in the colours that they use in their artwork. Other bright card was added to pull out all the colours of the photo and Mexico in the title is embossed on silver craft metal using wire and turquoise stones to embellish.

fairy papermania

Fairy Princess

A lovely simple little girl page! The photo did all the work, my niece passed out asleep at my cousins wedding in America at the end of a long day being a flower girl. The 12x12 is a papermania silk screen and I picked up the colours from it for the title which I printed from the computer, cut and then inked. I turned the photo black and white and put it through a soft glow effect. It's matted onto some textured paper and I cut into the background paper to create the overlaps. I made her wings from some scrap transparency material I had and painted them with lumiere paints (yummy!) spreading glitter over the wet paint. I drew the little fairy godmother and stars painting them in lumiere and finally the tiny stars are nail gems!

black and white

Lost in the City

Have you guessed where it is yet?? Yep it's Croydon, Surrey where I spent last christmas staying at a friends while my hubbie was down that way in panto. One very frosty morning I went off with my camera set on black and white and did a lot of looking up! The bright winter sun on the buildings and the glass was amazing and I got some great shots. I decided to do my layout in black and white to match the photos and added in the typical Croydon sites. For a country girl though it sure was busy!!!

paper documentary

Xel Ha (said shell ha)

A Paper documentary of one of my best days out ever!! Xel Ha is an eco park in Mexico where they filmed the blue lagoon, it is amazing and all natural! On this visit we got to be trainers for the day with the dolphins who live in huge lagoons on the park. We got to learn all about them from feeding to medical checks and of course to swim with them. I have used ephemera from the day, like the bus tickets and wrist bands and added maps from the brochures as well as photographing our passes and making them into embellishments. The journalling I did on the tropical leaves and flowers that were stamped with banana frog stamps and the paper is rouge de garance.

i''nt colour brilliant

 I'nt Colour Brilliant!

This Layout makes me smile! I love colour and this piece of work followed a spectacular rainbow over the fields at the back of my house. I revisted my childhood painting the rainbow onto some chipboard while a piece of stretched paper dried, on which I had created my blue sky background, sponging the clouds. I doodled my flowers and coloured some in with my coloured pencils (derwent coloursoft pencils yummy!) I made my cupcake embellishment in the same way and then paper dolled myself in some bright dresses. The title is hand drawn and my speech bubbles were added. I decided to make the top corner of the piece Black and white to show the contrast into the colour.

inspiring women

I am because of you!!

This Lo was to celebrate the 3 most influential women in my life, My mum, my gran and my nanny! I like to call these LO's paper documentaries and I have used ephemera, photos and hand made embellishments to document what each special lady has given me. My nanny was cooking, games crosswords and knitting as well as wisdom, my gran was painting, yorkshire and wisdom and my mum dress making, theatre, art, style, wisdom and love.

chipboard

The many faces of Princess Sophie

After spending the day with my stepson and his family I had so many pictures of the grandchildren!! I realised Sophie has so many different looks and wanted to make a LO about it. On that visit we had bought her a puzzle that had pieces to lift in and out and decided that would be a good way to include all the faces! I made the chip flowers and cut out the centres so they can be lifted in and out to reveal the hidden photos. There's a real mix of papers on this LO including BG, cosmo cricket and pink martini aswell as my own felt embellies and glittered chip letters.
